This *is* Christmas music.
I wrote this song starting back in 2019, and the lyrics have only felt more true with each passing year. I decided to release it on the 12th day of what is ostensibly the two-thousand and twenty-second Christmas, according to Christian doctrine. The Feast of the Epiphany is supposedly the day the Magi actually came to visit little baby Yeshua and his parents to bring them fancy gifts and a prophecy of greatness about the twelve-day old.
I dedicate this song to my family, friends, and to the radical carpenter from Galilee. I dedicate this song to a past and future where we don't feel like we have to "get through" the holidays. I dedicate this song to a world where people leave their twinkling lights up until the Spring Equinox, to bring a little bit of joyful light to the coldest part of winter. I dedicate this song to a future where we live in communities with ecological consciousness, and an active ethic of peace and communion with Nature and with each other -- there is no meaningful difference there anyway.
May peace prevail on this warming Earth. May we be good ancestors. May our descendants seven times seven generations hence sing carols of how we came together to overcome the systems that profit from our greed and division. Amen.
